The very idea of your wedding dress getting dirty can send chills up a brides spine. But the reality is that between all of the running around between venues, heading outside for photos, the chance of off weather, and drunk wedding guests, there are plenty of opportunities for that pristine dress to become dirty during the wedding day. Having photographed hundreds of weddings we’ve seen it all and have created this quick list of 3 Tips to Keeping Your Wedding Dress Clean on the wedding day.
- Spray the Hem
You’re probably like “whaaaaaaat?!?” but it’s true. Products like Scotchgard Fabric Protector can really go a long way in keeping the bottom of your dress clean while you’re galavanting around town. Our advice is to take your dress to a dry cleaner and ask them to spray the hem to protect the bottom of the dress. Let the pro’s handle it!
- Bring a Petticoat
While traveling from your hotel to your venue, having an extra coat to sit on is always a good idea. Don’t make the mistake of sitting down in the limo only to find out a few seconds later someone had spilled their drink there!
- Pack a Tide Pen
We cannot stress this one enough! If you haven’t read our Must Have Bride Emergency Kit post yet, you should do that now. Don’t worry…we’ll wait. A Tide pen can be a life saver! DO NOT leave home without this important item.
Mostly, the trick to keeping your wedding dress clean is through common sense. It’s ok to be adventurous (in fact, we encourage it!) but maybe wait until after the ceremony to roll around in the grass or go charging through the rain for those epic photos. What do you think?
